🟢 New Podcast Alert
We’re unpacking the roots of Applied Kinesiology: what it is, how it started, and how it works.
🟡 So What is Chiropractic Kinesiology?
In a nutshell, Chiropractic Kinesiology is one of the foundational techniques we use, based on the work of Dr. George Goodheart—a chiropractor who developed Applied Kinesiology (AK), a method that uses muscle testing to evaluate how the nervous system is functioning
This method allows us to evaluate not just structure, but the function and adaptability of the entire body—including biochemical, emotional, and neurological systems.
Where traditional chiropractic focuses on the adjustment of spinal joints, AK helps answer why an adjustment might not hold. It lets us look deeper into:
🔴 Structural patterns (imbalanced muscle tone, gait dysfunction, fascial tension)
🔵 Biochemical imbalances (nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, inflammation)
🟠 Emotional stress (stored tension or unresolved patterns that show up in the body)
🔴 Case study: the psoas mystery to a patient’s lower back pain
Early in my practic, A patient of mine came in with chronic low back pain. Sound familiar?
We adjusted him. Got some relief. But the pain kept coming back — same spot, same issue.
Every time we re-checked his psoas muscle (the deep hip flexor that connects your spine to your legs), it tested weak. Over and over.
Now here’s where it gets interesting.
The psoas isn’t just a muscle. It’s deeply tied into stress and survival responses. But it also has a reflexive connection to kidney function in Applied Kinesiology.
That got us thinking... What if this wasn’t just a mechanical issue?
We took a closer look at his hydration levels and kidney function. It became clear that staying hydrated wasn’t part of his routine—coffee, on the other hand, was a major part of his workday. To test our theory, we had him hold water in his mouth while we retested his weak psoas muscle. To my amazement, the muscle immediately tested stronger. Based on that response, we recommended that he cut back on coffee and gradually increase his water intake to about one quart for every 50 pounds of body weight. He followed through, and at his next visit, the results spoke for themselves—his psoas was holding strong, the adjustment lasted, and the pain didn’t return. He was blown away. So were we — and we’ve seen this kind of thing before.
This is what we mean when we say: we treat people, not just symptoms
