PART 1: The Spine, Mental Clarity, and Natural Healing – Why Chiropractic Still Matters

Part 1 of 2 in “The connection between your spine and overall health” with Dr. Tran from Color Chiropractic

Hi friends,

Because of the thoughtful responses we’ve received from recent newsletters, I (Dr. Richard Tran) wanted to share a more personal reflection in this two-part series. While Dr. Michelle Hsu and I share a common foundation as chiropractic kinesiologists, what I’m sharing here reflects my own journey—one rooted deeply in chiropractic and how it’s continued to shape my understanding of healing.

We’ll begin with what I believe is at the very core of chiropractic: the spine’s relationship to the brain—and how

🟢 Chiropractic is About More Than Structure—It’s About Adaptability

When most people think of chiropractic, they often picture adjustments for back pain or spinal misalignment. But chiropractic is much more than that.

Chiropractic is fundamentally about supporting the body’s natural ability to heal by restoring healthy communication between the brain and body through the nervous system. When the spine moves well and functions properly, it sends consistent, high-quality feedback to the brain—and that feedback is what helps the brain adapt, heal, and respond to stress.

Modern neuroscience is catching up with what chiropractors have seen clinically for decades.

🧠 In her interview with Russell Brand, Dr. Heidi Haavik shares how chiropractic adjustments stimulate parts of the brain responsible for focus, movement control, and immune function. She explains how spinal movement—and dysfunction—directly affects the brain’s ability to process information and coordinate healing.

In another important discussion, Dr. Dan Murphy speaks about chiropractic’s role during the 1918 flu pandemic and how adjustments may support immune system resilience by enhancing nervous system communication.

🟢 Dr. Tran’s Personal Insights

These insights reflect what we see in practice.

One story that still stands out is when my aunt came to me with longstanding knee pain. After testing and evaluation, I adjusted the top vertebra in her spine (the atlas)—not the knee—and something profound happened. She not only walked pain-free for the first time in years, but she also remarked how clear her mind felt.

That moment confirmed what I had begun to understand: that chiropractic adjustments don’t just address pain—they improve how the entire body and brain function together.

🎙️ A Podcast Summary

To make these insights even more accessible, we’ve created a short audio podcast summarizing the key takeaways from Dr. Heidi Haavik and Dr. Dan Murphy—plus a few reflections from this newsletter. Whether you’re driving, walking, or winding down for the evening, it’s a great way to absorb the big picture on how your spine connects to whole-body health.
